Welcome to my little corner of the internet. By now, you know the name. And yes, you have permission to crack jokes about the last name. I will even congratulate you if you come up with something I haven’t heard in my 41+ years of existence.
I have always loved storytelling and world building. Whether I was writing the story, or I was playing Sim Farm & Sim City, the idea of creating something from scratch has always been one of my favorite things to do.
As I was finishing high school, my goal was to get into movie making. I never really got close to that goal. My short film “Be Quiet” was played at a congress hearing when ITT Technical Institute was trying to get accredited, but they don’t even exist anymore.
During my time there, I found poker and decided to concentrate on graphic & web design to supplement my bankroll. And for the last 20+ years, that is what I have concentrated on.
I didn’t step away from writing entirely. In 2008 I became a featured writer covering the Chicago Cubs on a small website called Bleacher Report. That only lasted a short time and I wouldn’t write from 2010-2018, when I started writing fantasy football content. And from 2019-2025, I continued doing that for a website I founded called RotoHeat.
The problem with writing sports and fantasy content, is that the far majority of what I wrote had an extremely short shelf life. 12, 24, and 48 hours later, nobody would care, no matter how well the article was written.
Since I shut that down in the spring of 2025, I have been craving something that could truly fill the creative void. When I first purchased rickybutts.com, the plan was to focus on my personal brand.
Fuck that would be boring.
So instead, I decided to use it as the spark for knocking off one of my bucket list items. Writing a book.
It is a big pivot. From writing why it is rare for running backs that get 400 touches in a season to have valuable follow up seasons in fantasy to writing a book with no formal training? And putting it out there for everyone to see…
It scares the shit out of me.
But being a pussy won’t knock that item off the bucket list. However, I would be lying if I said I got to this point on my own.
Smyrna. You will be the first to read this. I want to say thank you for inspiring me. I wouldn’t have taken this leap without your encouragement.
But if it sucks, I am blaming you.
I hope you all enjoy! Make sure to leave comments and sign the guestbook.
